Statement Of Significance This house and four adjacent agricultural buildings are associated with production farming activities which appear to date back to c. 1920 when Mr. J. Cartmell established an approximately 25 acre farm on this site and adjacent acreage to the south. This location may have been particularly suitable due to its close proximity to Woodland Creek, which borders the current site. By 1924, a rural road (now 15th Avenue NE) dead-ended near the farm and connected with Sleater-Kinney Road at the west end. In the 1930’s, c. L. Carr, a native of Massachusetts, acquired the property and farmed it for several decades. The primary cash crops were poultry and eggs. An older residence originally stood o the south side of the access road, thus the subject property appears to be associated with C. L. Carr’s ownership. Several other agricultural buildings and the older residence were removed (c. 1965) in order to construct the current interstate freeway which bisected the farm that originally bordered on still rural portions of St. Martin’s property. Physical Description A simple side-gable vernacular house type which includes some features typical of the popular bungalow style (1905-1925); low pitched roof and shed dormer with exposed rafter ends, prominent porch (altered), simple cottage windows.
