Statement of Significane: According to Thurston County Assessor’s on-line documents, this house was built in 1952. Although high wooden fencing obscured visibility of all facades, it appears that some of the windows are not original. The entry door on the primary facade also appears modern. A permit was issued by Thurston County to re-roof the house in 1984. The building is a common example of ranch-style houses of the 1950s. The building is not considered to be the work of a master architect, nor was it built using innovative construction techniques. Research did not indicate that the house is associated with any historically important events or persons. This building adds little to our understanding of historic residential areas of the 1950s in the City of Lacey. Ranch style homes dating to the 1950s and 1960s are common in this neighborhood in Lacey. Ranch-style houses became very popular in the 1950s and 1960s after World War II with middle class Americans. The style originated from Spanish colonial architecture of the 17th and 19th centuries. The houses are generally typified by single-story plans with a low pitched roof and an overall simple style. The subject building is a typical example of a common style. We recommend the building not eligible for listing in the NRHP. Physical Description: This building is a rectangular ranch-style, single-family home with a built-in 1-car garage. The building features a hipped roof with asphalt shingles and closed eaves. Visible windows revealed a combination of multi-pane fixed and sash. Curved concrete steps lead to a screened single-entry door covered by the principal roof on the primary facade. The building sits on a concrete foundation. A 6 ft wood fence surrounds part of the front yard and all of the backyard. One aluminum shed is present in the southeast corner of the yard along the fence.
